Theme: For my film, I intent to focus of establishing drama centered around difficulties of Trust. Showcasing the perspective of people and how we cope with difficult situations. The film is mainly horror with a sense of detective elements, used in “ Double indemnity and Dick Tracy” in addition to horror present within horror films such as “Saw”. I intend for my film to be drama and action oriented, I want to show how we often don’t try to look and comprehend from a persons perspective in an argument. I intend for my film to have and underlining and deep meaning behind handling situations how people end up committing acts and how people deal with these situations yet I want my film to be enjoyed on a surface level, where people don’t have to analyze and dissect my film to enjoy it.
Research: Most of my research was done on films that Center themselves around drama, conflict and Horror. to be honest The main inspiration for this film, was based on another idea from a concept I’ve done originally that was based on a cop, another inspiration is based off a video game titled “sleeping dogs”. develop by united front games and published by Square Enix.
Update (as of January 2020): A better inspiration of my film is based around the concept presented in “Shaft” released in late in 2019, mainly having a past event serving as a forward motive for the film. Nevertheless my films main intent is to show how people analyze a situation and react towards it, however they don’t consider the other persons situation.
Concept: My film is about a young protagonist who loses his mother unexpectly at an early age. Years later, an epidemic of killings begin to reoccur, as our protagnist discovers that the same group responsible for killing his mother has also been responsible for the death of others as well. In the midst of his discoveries, our protagonist eventually discovers an hidden truth behind his mother and father. I’m looking to show how we as human beings spread judgement and hate among people when they are done wrong, and Yet we don’t take a single instance to comprehend the other persons circumstances and predicaments.
In the release of “Shaft” in 2019, there is a scene where JJ (John Shaft .Jr) reacts to his father “John Shaft” after having a converstation over the phone. To sum it up, JJ basically associates his father as being one of the fathers who walked away from their responsibilities. But in reality, John Shaft never walked away from his family, he was mainly forced to via “Mya”, (John Shaft Jr’s mother) who made the decision that it wasn’t possible to raise him around an environment where they were always in danger.
To me it made me feel a sense of confusion and anger towards JJ when I saw this scene initially. Then I also realized that other things happened to JJ prior to this scene, (i.e he loses his job). In knowing that, I can understand how people could have come to JJ defense, knowing that shaft could have made the sacrifice to change in order to protect his family. Then again, Love and compassion in a relationship is mainly fabricated if you are sacrificing your personality to satisfy another persons needs.
In the End, I want people to understand that people make terrible decisions sometimes with intention, other unintentionally. If a person that committed wrongdoing asks for forgiveness, we should forgive them, but also hold them to there word, Instead of just ridiculing them.

Update (January 29th, 2020): after mentioning and pitching an intial script. I was told to shorten the length of my film, As it was deemed “too long” for presentation. for requirement of my film to be presented it Hass to be at least 10 minutes or more, but it can’t be over 15 min… my initial script was 20 minutes, keyword being “initial” … you can basically see the problem😕.
that being said, i’ve created a shortened version of my senior film, where we start towards the end of thefilm, With our character, about to discover the idst behind what happened. The only issue here is that I’m going to have to find a way to develop the main character so that people can have a concern for him and not just a random situation. I intend to do this by implementing flashbacks as things happen in between action. hoping to elude to certain things about the main character.

Plan: Despite having a someone develop idea for my film, I have yet to finish pre-production of my film. I explore my concept previously in my screenwriting course for a 15-minute film, but I will find myself having to start from scratch.
Update (As of Spring 2020): I now have a clear vision for my film and have already completed a treatment and initial screenplay for my film, which takes place around the DC metropolitan area. I’ve mapped out a possible time frame in which I’m looking to start production. As of the now the only facing issue with this is gathering actors and confirming locations,(Something that I will be doing during the spring semester)
The biggest challenges for me completing my film in addition to organizing and going through production and post-production are,
Being able to manage and keep up with all my academic studies at BSU along with my responsibilities, upholding my scholarship in the BSU ensemble.
Getting hold of fake firearms or pistols for action sequences.
Being able to record my action sequences realistically without having myself ended up incarcerated or wrongfully accused.
Having the film completed by Fall of 2020.
I hope that through my connections with my fellow band members, along with help from the VCDMA Department along with other support from my peers, that I can make this happen.
Budget: As of now, I have little to no funds in obtaining the materials necessary for making this film. I would like to request borrowing 1 to 2 Video cameras, that record and high quality and are able to capture fast moving sequences. Besides that, I’m barely at the process of recruiting Talent and Gathering set materials. If I have to give an estimate of how much the film will cost to produce, it would be about $500 to $1,000 to make.
Creating: Given that I accurately follow my estimated time frame of production. I would have to finish pre-production by no later than early January. During the winter break I will focus on developing a plot, character list, recruiting talent and trying to resolve my dilemma in creating a low budget action film with it being realistic as possible.
Promoting: in between my production process I will be making a trailer for my film. I’ll also be making cast call flyers to star in my film. I will also be looking to create a promotional trailer for my film.
